Presentation Cane

A lovely presentation cane, an ebony shaft topped by an ivory handle which is capped at both ends by engraved silver caps, the silver collar has the inscription - PRESENTED TO MRS ROBINSON ON THE OCCASION OF HER LEAVING ASHINGTON BY THE GIRLS OF HER BIBLE CLASS AS A TOKEN OF THEIR AFFECTION & ESTEEM AUGUST 1902. This is a beautiful presentation cane in superb condition, with the exception of a missing ferule. The handle measures 4.5" long with the overall length at 33"

Brothers

This carved Ivory knop depicts two gentlemen on opposite sides, one wearing the hat. They both are bearded and look similar in facial features so perhaps siblings? This 3.5" x 2" knop is fairly small but extremely well detailed, late 19th century.

Presentation Cane

An Ivory handled presentation cane, the legend on the silver collar reads:  JOHN BUTTERY ESQ FROM KHAW SIM KONG PENANG. Research into these two names reveals that John Buttery (a Glaswegian) was a merchant operating in the Strait settlements of Penang, Malacca and Singapore with the firm of Sandilands Buttery & Co established in 1854 -1855. The cane was presented by Khaw Sim Kong who was, in 1874 the Governor of Ranong, a "bridge" between Thailand and Malaysia. The Khaw family founded and operated a steamship company known as the Eastern Shipping Company, the tomb of Khaw Sim Kong can be found in Ranong. The cane measures 35.5" with the handle measuring 4.5"
